Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about MICR toner, compatibility, ordering, and support — answered in one place.

Compliance & Standards

What is MICR toner and why do I need it for check printing?

MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) toner contains iron-oxide particles that allow check-reader machines and bank scanners to read the routing and account numbers printed on the bottom MICR line of each check. Standard laser toner does not contain these particles, so checks printed with it will be rejected by automated processing. If your business prints checks for payroll, accounts payable, refunds, or any payment workflow, you need MICR toner.

Are your MICR toners ANSI/ABA compliant (X9.27)?

Yes. All eMICR cartridges meet ANSI X9.27 magnetic signal strength specifications and ABA standards for MICR check printing. This guarantees your checks are readable by every US bank's automated processing equipment.

Do you provide compliance documentation for audits?

Yes. Upon request, we provide X9.27 magnetic signal certification documents and lot-specific test reports. This is especially useful for government, banking, and accounting customers who need audit trails during compliance reviews.

Will US banks accept checks printed with your cartridges?

Yes. Our MICR toner meets the magnetic signal strength and character formation standards required by every US bank's automated check processing system. We have supplied banks, credit unions, and accounting firms across the country since 2005 without compliance issues.

Compatibility & Printers

Which printers are compatible with your MICR toner?

We stock MICR cartridges for HP, Lexmark, and Samsung laser printers. Visit our compatible-printers page or browse by brand from the top navigation to find the right cartridge for your specific model.

Can I use MICR toner in a regular laser printer?

Yes. MICR toner works in any compatible laser printer designed to use that specific cartridge model. The cartridge is physically identical to a standard toner cartridge — the only difference is the iron-oxide content of the toner powder. Your printer does not need to be a special "MICR printer."

Do you carry MICR toner for HP, Lexmark, and Samsung?

Yes, all three brands. Each has a dedicated section in our Brands menu. We also carry less-common brands by special order — contact us if you need a specific cartridge that is not listed.

How do I find the right cartridge for my printer model?

Look up your printer model number (usually on a sticker near the toner door or in the printer's manual). Search that model on our site, or browse the brand collection. If you are unsure, contact us with your printer model and we will confirm compatibility within one business day.

Will MICR toner damage my printer or void the warranty?

No. MICR toner does not damage printers — it uses the same particle size and fusing temperature as standard toner. Printer manufacturers cannot void warranties solely based on third-party toner use under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the US, as long as the cartridge is the correct model for your printer.

Shipping & Delivery

Do you offer free shipping on MICR toner orders?

Yes. We offer free standard shipping on all orders over $500 within the continental United States. Orders below $500 ship at calculated rates based on weight and destination.

How long does delivery take?

Standard shipping is 2-5 business days within the continental US. Orders placed before 3:30 PM Eastern ship the same day. Expedited 1-2 day shipping is available at checkout for an additional fee.

Do you ship outside the continental US?

We currently ship within the continental United States only. We do not offer international shipping at this time.

Returns & Warranty

What is your return policy for MICR cartridges?

We offer a 30-day return policy. Unopened cartridges can be returned for a full refund. Opened cartridges that do not perform as expected (scanner readability issues, defects) can be returned for replacement or refund — we provide a prepaid return label.

What if a cartridge arrives damaged or defective?

Contact us within 48 hours of delivery and we will send a replacement immediately at no cost. We will also arrange free pickup of the defective unit. Your check printing should never be interrupted by a defective shipment.

Do your cartridges come with a warranty?

Yes. All MICR cartridges include a 12-month performance warranty from the date of purchase. If a cartridge fails to print readable MICR characters under normal use, we will replace it free of charge.

Ordering & Pricing

Do you offer bulk pricing or Net-30 terms?

Yes. Volume discounts apply to orders of 10+ cartridges. Net-30 payment terms are available for qualified businesses (banks, accounting firms, government agencies, established corporations). Apply via our contact form or call (800) 609-9218 to set up an account.

Can I set up a standing or recurring order?

Yes. Subscription orders are ideal for high-volume customers — set a fixed quantity to ship monthly, quarterly, or on your schedule. Contact us to configure a standing order with locked-in pricing.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), business ACH transfers, and purchase orders from qualified accounts. Net-30 customers are invoiced via email with payment due 30 days from the invoice date.

Technical Support

My scanner is not reading the MICR line — what is wrong?

Common causes: (1) Cartridge installed in a non-compatible printer model — verify the cartridge matches your printer exactly. (2) Toner level below 20% — replace and retest. (3) Print quality set too light — set to "Best" or "MICR" mode if available. (4) Scanner needs cleaning per manufacturer instructions. If none of these resolve the issue, contact our tech support for free troubleshooting.

How do I install a MICR cartridge correctly?

Installation is identical to a standard toner cartridge: power off the printer, open the toner door, remove the old cartridge, gently rock the new MICR cartridge side-to-side 5-6 times to distribute the toner evenly, remove the protective seal, insert into the printer, close the door, and run a test print. Always print a test check after installation and verify the MICR line scans correctly before going into production.
